MoUs Enrich Academic and Cultural Experiences
Laksamana College of Business (LCB) inked three memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with Korean establishments yesterday at the college’s auditorium of the main campus in the presence of outgoing Korean Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Kim Soung-eun. The three Korean university and establishments are Kyonggi University, SSimple Soft and Super Track. LCB Chief Operating Officer/Deputy Principal Dr S Sivarajah in his welcoming remarks said the MoU between LCB and Kyonggi University laid the foundation for collaborative initiatives that will “enrich the academic and cultural experiences of our students and faculty with the key areas of cooperation which include the implementation of short-term study programmes.” He said the efforts to enhance cultural exchange programmes and initiatives will significantly improve international language proficiency among the students and staff, promoting a deeper understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures. “We will also work closely with Super Track for future programmes to provide invaluable exposure and learning opportunities for all participants,” Dr Sivarajah said. Chinese Embassy Donates Books to College’s Library
The Embassy of China to Brunei Darussalam yesterday donated 162 books on Chinese culture and various subjects to Laksamana College of Business (LCB) in a ceremony at the college’s library, marking a milestone in the ongoing collaboration between the college and embassy. Ambassador of China to Brunei Darussalam Xiao Jianguo officiated the handover. The Chinese ambassador, in a speech, said, “Books play as a major carrier of Chinese civilisation and culture. “The donation of the 162 books in English language to the college covers China’s politics, history, economy, society, culture, science and technology, and literature. “The donation is also to enhance bilateral relationship and cooperation. The embassy hopes to make continuous efforts with LCB to promote the communication and mutual-learning between Brunei and China, as well as enhancing cooperation in various fields.” LCB Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Principal Dr S Sivarajah said the donation is aligned with LCB’s vision to provide students from diverse backgrounds with the best possible educational opportunities and learning support. “This generous donation not only enriches our library’s collection, but also strengthens the cultural and educational ties between our institutions. Dulang: A Journey to Southern Philippine Cuisine
A culinary workshop on Southern Philippine Dishes was held at Laksamana College of Business (LCB) yesterday. The workshop, ‘Dulang’, is part of an international food tour featuring the culinary arts and gastronomy of Muslim Mindanao. The tour visits a number of countries in Asia to celebrate the 126th anniversary of Philippine Independence and Nationhood in June this year. The workshop in Brunei Darussalam, organised by the Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam and LCB, was presented by Chef and Gastronomy expert Datu Shariff Khaled Pendatun. Dulang means food prepared in a circular tray following a tradition among people of Mindanao and Sulu in the Philippines and throughout Southeast Asia. It is a meal for celebration or conveying generosity and community. During the workshop, Datu Shariff Khaled Pendatun shared knowledge and history on dishes within the Southeast Asian region, noting how some of them are similar yet unique.He said that while some ingredients, cooking methods or even dishes may have different names but are more similar than people think. The chef also demonstrated three dishes during the workshop, offering participants a glimpse of Southern Philippine culture and heritage. – Adib Noor

Afternoon tea event connects businesses
The Britain Brunei Business Forum (BBBF) hosted an afternoon tea event for its members to meet Waitrose and Partners Commercial Lead for Export/International B2B Sales Tom Richards and Senior Business Manager International Firoza Kholwadia on Wednesday at Laksamana College of Business (LCB). Local business leaders engaged with representatives from the British brand, known for its 120-year history and regional growth. BBBF Chair Pengiran Aki Ismasufian bin Pengiran Haji Ibrahim, in a statement delivered by Executive Committee Member of BBBF, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Principal at LCB Dr Sivarajah Subramaniam said, “The event marks an important step in fostering business ties among our members and for Waitrose & Partners to understand the dynamics of our local retail market.” The event concluded with a networking session and an afternoon tea featuring Waitrose products available in the Sultanate prepared by LCB’s chefs and students of The Culinary School. – Lyna Mohamad
