Talk raises awareness on breast cancer
In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is October, Laksamana College of Business (LCB) welcomed the Brunei Breast Cancer Support Group to give a talk to its University Foundation Course students.
Brunei Breast Cancer Support Group Secretary Matron (Rtd) Datin Hajah Jaliha binti Haji Momin educated the students on how to perform self-checks, ways to detect signs of breast cancer, who are the people at risk, instruments used for examinations and the methods of treatment.
Breast cancer can occur in both women and men although the chance for men is very low. People who have family history of cancer are more at risk to get it. She stressed the necessity in getting consultation from health professionals when any anomaly is found.
The group’s President Hajah Aminah binti Haji Momin also shared her inspiring story as a breast cancer survivor.
Booths were also set up by members of the Brunei Breast Cancer Support Group to spread awareness and sell merchandise such as shirts, pins and religious books. The group’s Vice President Hajah Linda Aini binti Abdullah was also present.
