Big Data training held at Laksamana College of Business

A BIG Data lecture was held at Laksamana College of Business yesterday.

The session was facilitated by Khairil Anuar bin Md Isa, a guest lecturer from the Health Behaviour and Informatics Unit, Department of Basic Sciences, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia.

Khairil Anuar, whose focus is on specialised analytics systems and software, and Big Data analytics,

covered three topics during his lecture: Introduction to Big data, Introduction to Hadoop for Data Storage, and Introduction to Data Sorting using Mapreduce.

He pointed out that Big Data concepts can pave the way for various business benefits, including new revenue opportunities, more effective marketing, better customer service, improved operational efficiency and competitive advantages over rivals.

The lecturer also discussed the usage of sample data to investigate relationships with the ultimate goal of creating a model to predict a future value for some dependent variable, adding that the process of finding this mathematical model that best fits the sample data involves regression analysis.
