LCB introduces introduces new BTEC Computing Programmes
LAKSAMANA College of Business is offering new HND Computing programmes, namely Pearson BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Computing (Application Development) and Pearson BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Computing (Software Engineering), that adhere to the Regulated Qualification Framework (RQF). These new programmes began in September 2017 and has already accepted new students, with annual intakes taking place every March and September. Helmee bin Haji Ibrahim, BTEC Coordinator/IT Lecturer at Laksamana College of Business said that the new curriculum blends computer science and applied mathematics, and prepares students to meet the demand for high quality professional and technical education. This will enhance the chances of the students’ employability in the real world as they begin to shape their respective careers, he explained. After the successful completion of the Level 5 Higher National Diploma, students can pursue their career in computing sectors by entering employment, continuing existing employment, gaining computing specialist certificates or progressing to BSc (Hons) Computer Science (Year 2) at the Laksamana College of Business or UK universities.
The new HND programmes also include the opportunity for students to take vendor certification assessments like CompTIA, CISCO, Microsoft, Oracle and AXELOS. Student will also be eligible for membership of British Computing Society (BCS), Helmee explained. The programmes are offered in Laksamana College of Business for two years or equivalent to four semesters. Helmee said to earn the HND, students need to complete 15 courses in subjects like Programing, Networking, and Computing Research Projects. For the entry requirement, students should have a minimum of one GCE ‘A’ Level + four GCE ‘O’ Level credits or have a BDTVEC National Diploma or BTEC Level 4 HNC in Computing or equivalent. Students can register for March or September intakes every year, he added. Laksamana College of Business is also the first private college in Brunei to be awarded with Accreditation Service for International Colleges (ASIC) from the United Kingdom.
