NCB conducts educational talk on drug abuse for LCB students

THE Laksamana College of Business (LCB) recently hosted a one-day anti-drug educational talk by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NBC) of Brunei Darussalam, where the students were briefed on local regulations and the common types of drugs are abused.

The talks were organised into four sessions which were delivered by Narcotics Officer Hajah Norhayani Binti Abdullah; and Assistant Narcotics Officers Pengiran Md Nuh Bin Pengiran Mohd, Wasulhana Binti Haji Sudin and Ruddy Mulyaddey Bin Haji Mohammad Ali.

Th students were also informed on the tactics used by the international drug syndicate which operates across several regions and targets susceptible nationals, including Bruneians, to smuggle drugs.

According to the NCB, this syndicate has been known to target potential victims through Internet chat rooms and social media networks.

The talk also covered the abuse of inhalant substances which can cause permanent brain damage or memory loss, slurred speech, nausea and vomiting, liver damage, muscle weakness and cramping, abdominal pain, and death.

The students were even advised to exercise extra precaution in allowing strangers or suspicious persons to use their vehicles.

The guest speakers also informed the audience on how the NCB oversees the administration and implementation of treatment, rehabilitation and after-case services, which include a supervision programme for low-moderate risk whereby, the client (drug addict) attends weekly therapy sessions without living in a residential treatment environment.
